Gavin has taught at USQ for over 13 years, he was the coordinator of the Clinical Psychology Program from 2014 – 2018, and Toowoomba Psychology Masters Program Lead from 2019. He was successful for an Early Career Teaching Award in 2011.
Gavin has written book chapters on mental health assessment, diagnosis and disorders. He has also published in a wide range of topics including metal health, domestic violence, learning and teaching, work and career, clinical assessment, natural therapies, and Indigenous mental health in leading journals. He has been an Associate Investigator on two National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grants and a Chief Investigator in one NHMRC grant part of a research team investigating assessment and treatment of mental health among Indigenous Australians.
Prior to moving to academia in 2007, Gavin was the Director of Psychology in Toowoomba Health Service and managed 35 psychologists. Gavin is married to Dr Lisa Beccaria, a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at USQ and they have two adult children
